Apps that Also Work Offline
If you’re like me, you’ve probably been conditioned to believe there’s no such thing as an app that works offline. After all, apps are meant to be online and connected to the internet. And yet, I just found out that some apps do indeed have offline capabilities! In this post I’ll let you know which ones they are — plus what benefits they have over other options.
Google Drive
Google Drive is a cloud storage service that allows you to access your files from any device with an internet connection. Unlike the other apps mentioned in this article, Google Drive doesn’t have its own app for offline use, but it does have a web-based interface that will work offline.
Google Drive’s free tier gives you 15GB of space, which can be enough for some simple tasks like word processing or storing photos taken on your phone. If you need more space than that, there are paid plans available that you can explore, but most users find the 15GB more than enough to suit their needs.
Salesforce1
Salesforce1 is a cloud-based customer relationship management (CRM) application. It allows you to create and manage contacts, leads, opportunities and cases. Salesforce1 has been designed to work on all browsers and devices, including mobile phones. It’s available for both iOS and Android users. It’s capabilities in offline work are not as impressive; however, you can save all your offline work and it will be instantly uploaded once you go online, just find an Internet connection and let your computer do the rest.
LastPass
LastPass is a password manager that allows you to store your passwords and logins on any device. Whether you’re traveling in a foreign country, or just want to keep your information secure without having to worry about losing it, LastPass can be used offline as well. It’s also the perfect place to keep sensitive information like social security numbers and birthdates (for those who don’t want them in their browser history).
The app syncs with other browsers so that no matter what system you use, your login information will be there when you need it—and this means that if someone were able to get into one of your devices, they wouldn’t have access elsewhere!
DataScope
DataScope is a data visualization tool that allows you to turn large amounts of unstructured data into interactive charts and graphs. This app is great for visualizing large amounts of information in a way that is easy to understand. DataScope works online, but if you have an internet connection issue or don’t have access to the internet, it will still be useful because all your offline work will still be saved and available when you come back online.
